The Other Hollywood Oscar Ceremony - The "Oscar for Peace" Awards
Peter Graves-Goodman
2007-02-27 5:24 AM![]()
At the corner of Hollywood and Vine, just blocks away from where the Hollywood Oscars were to be presented at the Kodak Theater, the "Military Families Speak Out" organization hosted an “Oscar for Peace” awards ceremony and "Bring Our Troops Home Now" peace vigil. "Military Families Speak Out" honored individuals “for their exceptional and tireless commitment to waging peace, rather than war.” The event drew thousands, and featured an 8-foot “Oscar” in military camouflage with the inscription “Bring Me Home!” The "Code Pink Police," members of the antiwar group, Code Pink Women For Peace, arrested a mock President Bush, while the "Billionaires for Bush" comedy troupe conducted a mock counter-protest. Democracy for America Miami (DFAM) and Miami Veterans for Peace have come up with a novel approach to broadcasting a message to end the occupation of Iraq: an aerial banner that reads. “Bring Our Troops Home Now”. These two groups decided to first try their idea at this year’s Super Bowl in Miami and again at the Grammy Music Awards, but inclement weather forced the event to be postponed. Now the organizers have turned their attention to this Sunday’s Oscars in Hollywood, California.

Rather than marching in a circle and going home, let's turn this country on its head, and stop this now, before it gets any worse. (text/plain)

Guinea-Conakry is a small West African country of 10 million inhabitants, one of the poorest countries on the planet, in spite of the richness of its mining industry: diamonds, gold, iron, uranium and especially bauxite of which it is the 2nd largest producer in the world. Although the majority of the population of Guinea lives in misery, local and foreign bourgeois and the American, Canadian and Japanese multinationals grow rich, protected by the regime of General Lansana Conté (who seized power after a coup in 1984) against rising dissatisfaction. The last thing that Bush and the Pentagon high command want is a mass march on the Pentagon on the 40th anniversary of the historic 1967 March on the Pentagon. The powerful symbolism of a March on the Pentagon is something that the war-makers fear and want to divert. (image/jpeg)

Gay or straight, bisexual or transgender, black or white or Asian, it makes no difference to the cold blooded murderers at Livermore as the employees mindlessly carry out their proscribed "tests" and "detonations." After all, the money's good, why would they ever ask anything? (image/jpeg)

Beginning with the audio from Mumia’s recent speech to this weekend’s massive anti-war demonstrations in San Francisco and Washington DC ( http://www.prisonradio.org/audio/mumia/2007MAJ/jan07/1-23-07WarSpeech.mp3 ), Mumia has also recently written essays about President Bush’s “new strategy” for Iraq, US corporate profits in Iraq, global warming, Martin Luther King Day, and the death of Gerald Ford. Normally, the weaponized radioactive poison gas munitions are to be used on America's many "terrorists" enemies around the globe. The battlefield product has no "turn off" switch and is deadly forever. Apparently, the rogue Livermore Nuker Lab has declared war on San Francisco. (image/jpeg)
