The Other Hollywood Oscar Ceremony - The "Oscar for Peace" Awards
At the corner of Hollywood and Vine, just blocks away from where the Hollywood Oscars were to be presented at the Kodak Theater, the "Military Families Speak Out" organization hosted an “Oscar for Peace” awards ceremony and "Bring Our Troops Home Now" peace vigil. "Military Families Speak Out" honored individuals “for their exceptional and tireless commitment to waging peace, rather than war.” The event drew thousands, and featured an 8-foot “Oscar” in military camouflage with the inscription “Bring Me Home!” The "Code Pink Police," members of the antiwar group, Code Pink Women For Peace, arrested a mock President Bush, while the "Billionaires for Bush" comedy troupe conducted a mock counter-protest. The Peace Plane flies to the Oscars
Democracy for America Miami (DFAM) and Miami Veterans for Peace have come up with a novel approach to broadcasting a message to end the occupation of Iraq: an aerial banner that reads. “Bring Our Troops Home Now”. These two groups decided to first try their idea at this year’s Super Bowl in Miami and again at the Grammy Music Awards, but inclement weather forced the event to be postponed. Now the organizers have turned their attention to this Sunday’s Oscars in Hollywood, California. (image/jpeg)

Anticapitalist video: Memory, Dignity And Struggle
The Spanish “Transition to democracy” was simply a way to fortify the capitalist economic model. With such Transition, the Spanish dominant class eliminated all sort of social resistance and opened the way for business; they made a Francoism without Franco and presented the Transition as a triumph of the people. It was a history written by the owners of money and their fascist sentries. But Memory, Dignity and Struggle continue (image/jpeg)

text Solidarity with the General Strike in Guinea! International Communist Party 2007-02-15 10:11 AM
Guinea-Conakry is a small West African country of 10 million inhabitants, one of the poorest countries on the planet, in spite of the richness of its mining industry: diamonds, gold, iron, uranium and especially bauxite of which it is the 2nd largest producer in the world. Although the majority of the population of Guinea lives in misery, local and foreign bourgeois and the American, Canadian and Japanese multinationals grow rich, protected by the regime of General Lansana Conté (who seized power after a coup in 1984) against rising dissatisfaction. Free Speech Victory! Permits Secured for Pentagon Demonstration
The last thing that Bush and the Pentagon high command want is a mass march on the Pentagon on the 40th anniversary of the historic 1967 March on the Pentagon. The powerful symbolism of a March on the Pentagon is something that the war-makers fear and want to divert. (image/jpeg)

text The irish down-under jimtravers 2007-02-08 3:56 PM
Can we ignore the signals that are as relevant in Ireland as anywhere else. As two countries enter the EU in 2007 are we nuturing the seeds of racial tension by opening our borders to people who wish to import their ways and culture into our society. Are we ignoring the threat of Islamic terrorism by endeavouring to be politically correct when dealing with asylum seekers, refugees and others entering this country. Is it time for change and a time to take stock of the ways in which we allow people freely enter this country? (text/plain)
