URGENT Refusenik Mehmet Tarhan - Stop mistreatment and detention
Payday
2005-06-08 11:46 PM
We are urging support for Mehmet Tarhan, a conscientious objector who is a gay man, detained since 8 April in the military prison of Sivas, Turkey. We understand that he has been repeatedly and brutally attacked by other prisoners after prison staff told them that he was "a terrorist". His trial, which began on 26 May, has been postponed to 9 June. When he appeared in court on the 26th, Mr Tarhan had bruises all over his body and could not walk well. He is now on hunger strike against the abuse and against the refusal of the prison authorities to ensure his safety. (text/plain)

May Day Versus Loyalty Day
Mary La Rosa

May Day versus McCarthy era like "Loyalty Day" opened a UN Conference against Nuclear Weapons that seemed doomed by ambiguities and lack of reportage from its very start?¦ including vague US intentions towards peace contrasted by recent trends towards a nuclearised weapons program that supports pre emptive strikes. Meanwhile, Israel demanding Iran halt its nuclear weapons production is still vague about its possession of nuclear weapons and adds to its crimes against humanity in the Occupied Territories by dumping nuclear production waste on someone else's homeland (text/plain)

D. Burbeck

Of course it is the inevitable, looming oil crisis that awaits the US (because
of her thirst for oil) that has given this Administration the justification to
invade Iraq on the "pack of lies" (1. Honorable George Galloway) that came
out of this White House. That, although not justified in many people's minds,
is pretty much understood by the rank and file.
