Corp Media Mentioned DC S24 - But There Was Much More
D. Burbeck
2005-09-27 5:26 PM
Yes, the corporate media actually mentioned the demonstration in DC which drew more than 100,000 protesters.......it's true. Their reports were generally about 15 seconds in length, and mentioned nothing about the impassioned call for impeachment by former US Attorney General Ramsey Clark or any of the other speakers at the Rally.

To say we must stay in Iraq to save it from chaos is a lie
Simon Jenkins
2005-09-23 12:30 PM
"This second lie is infecting everyone. It is spouted by Labour and Tory opponents of the war and even by the Liberal Democrat spokesman, Sir Menzies Campbell. Its axiom is that western soldiers are so competent that, wherever they go, only good can result. It is their duty not to leave Iraq until order is established, infrastructure rebuilt and democracy entrenched.
Note the word "until." It hides a bloodstained half century." (text/plain)

Will we use the power we have on September 24?
Mike ferner
2005-09-21 12:02 PM
If nonviolent direct action is the most powerful tool we have to stop this war, what is the best time to exercise it? When a few hundred people surround the White House on September 26, or when a half-million (and more) people are in the streets September 24?

Reposts from jamie

"Without a shadow of doubt, a full scale sectarian war would help the collation forces; they would be the primary beneficiary. In fact from the very beginning of the conflict the media has been constantly stoking sectarian tensions, the language employed was crafted accordingly. They kept on repeating minority Sunni Arabs of 20%, who become minority Sunnis of 20%! The majority Shi’ites became the oppressed Shi’ites, as if the hearts of the Anglo-US government bleeds for them! The Arab nationalist Baath party became a Sunni party, as if religion defined it!"

One Hundred Years of Radical Solidarity
Kevin Farkas
2005-09-15 3:36 PM
This year the Industrial Workers of the World celebrates its 100th anniversary. With historic and contemporary ties to Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania, the IWW is one of the earliest labor organizations to advocate industrial unionism. In 1909, 1912, and 1913 the Wobblies organized strikes with local workers in the steel and tobacco industries.
The Pittsburgh General Membership Branch of the IWW will be holding a Centenary celebration in October to commemorate one hundred years of radical solidarity unionism. (text/plain)
