Defeating “Right to Work”
Mark Vorpahl
2012-12-16 5:46 AM
The passage in Michigan of the anti-worker legislation grotesquely misnamed “Right to Work” (RTW) should be putting the entire nation on red alert. The downward pressure on the standard of living such bills unleash on the vast majority extend well beyond the union ranks. The bill’s success in Michigan, a pivotal state for organized Labor, indicates the unfolding of a national campaign by RTW’s backers. (text/html)

Paul Krugman Discovers Marx (and Misses the Point)
Shamus Cooke
2012-12-12 1:01 PM
In his recent New York Times op-ed piece, Princeton professor and regular columnist for The New York Times, Paul Krugman observed:
The American economy is still, by most measures, deeply depressed. But corporate profits are at record high. It’s simple: profits have surged as a share of national income, while wages and other labor compensation are down. The pie isn’t growing the way it should — but capital is doing fine by grabbing an ever-larger slice, at labor’s expense. (text/plain)

* CAUSES WE ARE SUPPORTING:
Below you will find a list of some of the causes we support. You can consult our blog where we publish announcements of the struggles we are supporting through money donations.
-> Pussy Riot benefit : After the mediatization of one of our t-shirt worn by a Pussy Riot singer and the raise of our sales for that reason, No-Gods-No-Masters decided to donate all the money from those sales of that same t-shirt to the "Free Pussy Riot" legal defense fund. We have also opened a Free Pussy Riot t-shirts section with many other designs that will also finance the same cause.
-> Solidarity with greek anti-fascists : During October 2012, anti-fascists protesters in Greece were arrested and tortured by the police after an anti-nazi protest against Golden Dawn neo-nazi party. They are now requesting help to pay the fees associated to their detention, trial and legal defense.
-> Financial support of anarchist comrades arrested during Toronto's G20 protests who are still facing state's repression and need help paying their legal defense fees.
-> Donation to the organization "I Give To Us" who are helping to defend protesters that have been arrested (mostly for no reasons) during the student General Strike in Quebec.
-> Financial support to CUTV : In the middle of the student general strike in Quebec, the shop commited itself to give monthly donations to CUTV, a community television who became famous for speaking against police brutality and giving a voice to the protesters. CUTV is also producing interviews with anarchists.
-> Full funding of Resistance Network including : www.anarcho-punk.net (worldwide anarcho-punk community and music sharing), www.resistance.tk (french anarchist community and journal), www.pirate-punk.net (french non-commercial music sharing community), www.QuebecUnderground.net (underground music sharing from Quebec scene)
-> Pirate-Punk.net compilation and Anarcho-Punk.net compilation : Music compilations available in CD or free download under the theme of file sharing and supporting underground scene.
-> A donation to support to Sea Shepherd in 2010

Navigating Egypt’s Revolutionary Crisis
Shamus Cooke
2012-12-12 5:36 AM
As chaos again envelopes Egypt, the revolution is evolving in new directions, along contradictory and confusing channels. It’s tempting to immediately support the “opposition” to the Muslim Brotherhood’s apparent “power grab,” but the situation in Egypt is more complex. The recent events in Egypt are not simply signs of a healthy revolution, they include immediate dangers. (text/plain)

Why UN Climate Agreements Fail
Shamus Cooke
2012-12-04 3:12 AM
History will undoubtedly deliver the harshest condemnations of the UN climate talks currently underway in Doha, Qatar. But the conference was laughable before it began; the inept “goals” of the talks stand in tragic-comic opposition to what we already know about climate change — that the climate has already changed in profound ways and its trajectory spells doom for civilization if drastic, coordinated steps are not taken in the immediate future. Austerity — the 1%’s Global Battle Cry
Mark Vorpahl
2012-11-29 2:00 PM
Whether we are left with the Fiscal Cliff or a Grand Bargain, workers in the U.S. face massive cuts to programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, unemployment insurance, Food Stamp assistance and other needed social safety nets. This is an example of “austerity” which has largely been pursued in the U.S. until now, on a statewide and local level. (text/html)

Why is Obama Silent Over the New Congo War?
Shamus Cooke
2012-11-27 12:37 PM
The last Congo war that ended in 2003 killed 5.4 million people, the worst humanitarian disaster since World War II. The killing was directly enabled by international silence over the issue; the war was ignored and the causes obscured because governments were backing groups involved in the fighting. Now a new Congo war has begun and the silence is, again, deafening. (text/plain)

Labor’s Call to Action: The Grand Bargain Betrayal
Shamus Cooke
2012-11-22 2:25 AM
The labor movement is in terminal crisis. After decades of declining membership, the union movement has been targeted for destruction: private sector union membership is near eradication, and now the corporations are on a public-sector mopping up mission, using the city, state, and federal budget deficits as an excuse to target public sector unions. Obama’s Race to the Top education policy specifically targets the nation’s most powerful union workers, the teachers. (text/plain)
The U.S. Role in Israel’s Attack on Gaza

As Obama tours Southeast Asia to strengthen his alliances against China, Gazans are being killed and maimed by the hundreds, with the possibility of an incredibly bloody Israeli invasion. Obama Nudges Syria Toward Regional War
Shamus Cooke
2012-11-15 8:58 PM
Humanitarian catastrophes are surprisingly easy to predict. Take Syria for instance. Like Iraq, Syria has a complex mix of ethnicity and religion, with a long history of conflict. Enter the United States, who comes with guns and cash that it doles out to certain ethnic/religious groups, and not to others. The ensuing bloodbath is not a surprise, but a strategic plan to dismember the Syrian government. (text/plain)

Will Unions Fight Fiscal Cliff Cuts to Medicare and Social Security?
Shamus Cooke
2012-11-14 12:55 PM
With pro-Obama election posters still visible in most union halls across the country, the President has already taken steps towards selling out not only labor unions (again) but all working people. But this isn’t the “ordinary” sellout that working people have come to expect from Democrats — this is an attack of historic proportions. (text/plain)

Will the Democrats Tax the Rich to Avoid the Fiscal Cliff?
Shamus Cooke
2012-11-12 1:04 PM
Literally the day after the election a sudden “urgency” gripped the nation: the imminent danger of the so-called “fiscal cliff” — the national automatic tax increases and spending cuts due in January. The media screamed that the suddenly approaching fiscal cliff would trigger a recession, forcing Democrats and Republicans to consider a “grand bargain” budget deal to avoid disaster. (text/plain)
Development of Maoist Theory and Practice in the Philippines
Jose Maria Sison
2012-11-12 2:26 AM![]()
The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) was reestablished on the theoretical foundation of Marxism-Leninism-Mao Zedong Thought on 26 December 1968. Since 1995, it has officially used the term Maoism as synonym for Mao Zedong Thought. The adoption of the term is due to language alignment in relation to Marxism-Leninism rather than due to any change of meaning or line in relation to Mao Zedong Thought. Since 3 September 1993 in his message to the Symposium on Mao Zedong Thought in Manila, the founding chairman of the CPP has referred to adherents of Mao Zedong Thought as Maoists.
