march 16: call to action! from drummers for peace
by bucket drum Thursday, Mar. 06, 2003 at 5:53 PM

Call to Action! March 16th mass protest for peace. Join the drum bloc or form your own contigent.

Creativity uber alles!

Come all ye faithful! We need you: artists and poets, singers and songwriters, freaks and geeks, revelers and ravers, skateboarders and rollerblade aficionados, office workers and students, punks and carny’s, housewives and daydreamers.

Whatever label has been thrust upon you, whatever label you’ve embraced. War is almost upon us. Any day now, the government will unleash an assault upon the people of Iraq, the likes of which the world has seldom known. When faced with the prospect of an unjust and unprovoked attack that will even its proponents acknowledge result in the deaths of tens of thousands of innocent people what choice have we but to resist?

The Pittsburgh Organizing Group [POG] has put out a call for a massive demonstration against war on March 16th. The time has come to make a more powerful statement then the regional convergence. Since we’ll lack the numbers of January 26th the success of this event depends on each yinzer putting forth the maximum effort possible. Over 35 groups have endorsed this call to assemble at 2:00Pm at Flagstaff Hill in Schenley Park. The rally will be preceded by a 1:00pm picnic for peace and followed by an un-permitted march through Shadyside.

We will be there with our drums, our rage at injustice, and our joy of collective resistance. The rest is up to you. This movement must begin to incorporate more and more creative elements into our actions. Form a contingent and bring what you’ve got. Flags, bubbles, kites, bikes, tricycles, masks, goggles, poems, literature, and more is requested at this gathering. Take back what the system has stolen from you- the freedom to be who you are and the freedom to shape the society you’re a part of.

We are calling for a cacophony of diversity to shake the boardrooms (and bedrooms) of power.

We choose drums and we welcome you to join us, but the possibilities are endless.

Stop the war and whatever happens on the streets, NO REGRETS!

The beat goes on,

Drummers for change!
