Highlights of the M20 Unpermitted March in a photo essay format.

We joined the crowd just as the march was getting ready to leave the Federal Building...and then we missed them.

But that was okay, we got to hang out with the cops, and that was pretty cool. There sure were a lot of them.

Here you can see the cops destroying the signs that people had left behind.
We get our own crowd

We ended up hanging around for about 45 minutes, until the march came back. By that time, we had become a bigger crowd.
And the march returns...

And the march keeps going in another loop around the Federal Building.

We certainly caught a different crowd with this march than that in Oakland or even Shadyside.

This is the guy that I believe the Post-Gazette quoted as claiming his car was vandalized without reason. Actually, he rammed his car into at least one protestor in his haste to speed up his commute.

Someone decided to try to take off his license plate in retaliation, the only damage that I saw to the car. It was pretty twisted up, but it remained on. You can\'t see it in this shot because the driver has decided that 50 miles an hour is the right speed to travel in the middle of a crowd.

This driver holding up the peace sign was much more typical.
Going into the Southside

Going over the bridge might have been a mistake. From what I understand, the plans discussed with the police beforehand had said that the march would remain downtown. At any rate, it was on Carson Street that the police became agressive and tried to break up the march.

It was hard to tell if this bus driver was in support or angry, actually.
Off the streets..and onto the sidewalks

Here the cops told everyone to get off the streets for the first time, which most people did. They were a wee bit pushy.
First arrest?

This was the first arrest that I witnessed. This man was on his bicycle and then pushed him to the ground. I didn\'t see any reason for him to be arrested. Luckily, someone rescued his bicycle.

The second arrest. This one I didn\'t see take place.

We had heard that the officers were trying to target the leaders of the march, so Pete was pretty worried at this point. It turned out that they were talking about the young, scruffy looking organizers. We could hear them saying that they should find a way to provoke an arrest. They talked about this for almost an hour, and eventually they did arrest the member of POG in question -- hard to say if there was a legitimate reason or not.
The End

I didn\'t see any of the mass arrests, but we did catch two buses filled with arrrestees going by, as well as several paddy wagons. One had a bicycle mounted on the front. Someone should tell the cops that bicycles are allowed on the streets.
