270 marched peacefully through Oakland

At least 270 silent marchers brought their anti-war message to the sidewalks of Oakland today, bearing coffins and many wearing masks in solidarity with the Pittsburgh 122. Although campaigners marched on the sidewalk peacefully and quietly, dozens of police officers in riot gear and bearing billy clubs and guns stood by. They were prepared with at least two paddy-wagons and blocked traffic along the route gratuitously.

This was really funny. Here the same cops are signing letters to the DA asking them to dismiss charges against the Pittsburgh 122.

Sure had a lot of handcuffs for a permitted, silent march. They also seemed to think the photo taking was funny.

This cop got really angry when I took his picture. He got off his bike and started to threaten me, saying "beat it."

At the end, many of the marchers stayed around to send letters to the District Attorney, asking for the dropping of charges against the Pittsburghers unlawfully arrested on March 20.
