Death of Public Transit nears. Action needed to Save Our Transit
Bus and trolley riders in Allegheny County only have until midnight on November 30, 2004 to get the lazy ass lawmakers of this state to secure the dedicated funding that public transit in Pennsylvania needs to keep running. For years public transit has been bleeding to death and Pennsylvania's lawmakers have done absolutely nothing. For the past few years things have been very scary for those who ride public transit and now come the ultimate frights:
• NO WEEKEND & HOLIDAY SERVICE
• NO NIGHTIME SERVICE
• 70 ROUTES SHUT DOWN
• DEATH FOR PUBLIC TRANSIT!
For Port Authority workers this means 500 lay offs.
The PA General Assembly must pass Senate Bill 1162 and House Bill 2697 or something like them that give public transit REAL dedicated & reliable funding by the end of the present regular session. Failure to act again this year will initiate the final death spiral for the Port Authority.

The buses leave at 7AM that day and will be back by 8PM that evening. There is no cost and a brown bag lunch is provided as well.

This trip is made possible by the dedicated members of the Amalgamated Transit Union, Local 85.
Should legislation that will keep the system running not be passed by Thanksgiving Day, then Save Our Transit will begin an outdoor fast and vigil on that day and keep at it until the legislation is passed or until November 30 at midnight, which ever comes first.
